GARRY (Hennigar), Lucy Irene ? Born June 21, 1916, to Bert and Mildred Hennigar (Wier) in Five Mile River, passed away February 16, 2013, in Mission, B.C., with her daughter Elaine by her side. She was predeceased by Glen, her husband of 60 years in 2002; her daughter, Diane in 2010; and 10 of her 11 siblings: Clyde, Catherine, Sidney, Evelyn, Lillas, Henry, Ralph, Ethel, Stella and Helen. She is survived by her children, Robert (Marie), Donald (Bettina), Elaine (Elliott); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Edith Miller in Noel and many relatives throughout Nova Scotia. Mum grew up in Upper Kennetcook, however, lived with the family of Dr. Reid in Windsor from the time she was 12 and her beloved Dr. Reid arranged for her to attend the Yarmouth School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She returned to the Reid home where she worked for the doctor and also at Windsor Hospital. One day Dr. Reid invited a newly arrived RCMP Constable from Saskatchewan over for supper and so Mum met Glen Garry and fell in love. They were married in October 1942 and Dad soon left for war. Their first child, Robert was born in September 1943 in Nova Scotia, and after the war, the family moved to British Columbia, where Diane was born in July, 1948; Donald was born in December, 1951 and Elaine was born in October, 1955. After living in several different communities in British Columbia, they settled in Mission in 1958. Mum worked at the Mission Hospital from 1965 until her retirement in 1984, at the age of 68. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed playing bridge, fishing and gardening. A common sight down on the Fraser River, was Mum and three friends, bar rigs with bells on, card table set up, playing bridge and drinking wine. After Dad passed away, Mum eventually lived in Pleasantview Home in Mission, where the care she received by the loving staff was exemplary. True to her beloved profession, she maintained her compassion and care of others in her final years. Mum was very proud of her Nova Scotia family and heritage. Dear to her heart was the Cemetery Fund for St. Peter's Anglican Church in Upper Kennetcook. Those wishing to do so, may make a donation in her memory to that fund. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
