  Vivian move to Bath, Maine with her family in 1900 where she completed high school and worked as a secretary at Bath Iron Works for nine years. Vivian and her husband, Clint Hanson, whom she married on August 6, 1927, settled in Portland on a five acre parcel which they filled with vegetable and flower gardens. Both were avid readers, the walls of  their Portland home were lined with books, as they are today in 1995. Although she will not confirm, it is believed that Vivian, under a pen name, wrote articles for garden magazines. For some years after her marriage, Vivian performed secretarial and bookkeeping work in an environment where she became a knowledgeable invester. Although quite wealthy, she lived frugally after Clint's death and became reclusive. She still owns the Portland home but a 1993 accidental fall forced her to live in the Cedars Nursing Care Center, still alert and consuming at least one book per day in 1995.
