GREEN, Donald Melvin 'Mel' ? 75, Truro, formerly of North Noel Road, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, after a lengthy illness. Born in North Noel Road, Mel was a son of the late
Merton and Stella (White) Green (of North Noel Road), and he was always proud to claim it as his home town, regardless of where his path in life took him. He is survived by his partner, Eileen Barr, Truro; his daughter,
Dawn Green (Tony), Halifax; his stepchildren, Peter (Jennifer) Holman, Truro; and Susan (Bobby) Barr, Halifax; his stepgrandchildren, Jory, Nathan, Lucas, Sasha and Nicole; his brother, Robie Green, North Noel Road; his
sister, Evelyn (Burpee) Smith, Walton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by a son in infancy; his brother, Ralph; and his sisters, Alda and Hilda Green. Mel spent his youth in North Noel Road,
enjoying what life in the country offered. Once he finished school he moved on to a long career with the Bank of Nova Scotia, which used Mel`'s skills at various bank branches throughout the Maritimes, and in Ontario. When he
left the bank, Mel moved to the Federal Government and a career in the Department of Indian Affairs. Throughout his work career, Mel made many personal connections with his customers and clients, and developed a
reputation for being tough but fair. After retirement Mel lived in a number of communities in Nova Scotia, most recently Truro, and liked nothing better than finding a deal at a yard sale, or helping a friend with a construction project. Mel and his family would like to take this opportunity to thank Colchester Palliative Care, the Victorian Order of Nurses, and Dr. Rowe for all their assistance during his illness. And we offer a special thank-you to Lisa and Marilyn for the special care and human touch that they provided. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 19 at 2 p.m. in J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Ken-netcook, Chuck Paterson officiating with a private family interment in North Noel Road Cemetery,
North Noel Road. Following the service, we en-courage everyone to join us for a time of fellowship and reminiscence in Green Hall in North Noel Road. Mel specifically requested that no flowers be present at his service, and we would ask that everyone honour his wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or any other charitable organization.
