- From Leland Harvie's book 'The Harvey/Harvie Family of Hants Co., N.S.':
"murdered by John Ryan, alias George Stanley, an Irish convict who escaped to Halifax. Stanley fled to Newport after the theft of a purse of money from the hotel where he was lodged and made the acquaintance of Freeman Harvey. The body was found covered over by potatoes in the cellar, the head having been severed. Stanley was tried and hanged 1 Aug 1906 at Windsor."
