- GILLIS, Patrick Lawrence age 73 years of Middle Sackville Born in Queensport, January 20th, 1942, he was a son of Robert & Hattie (Greencorn) Ehler. Adopted by Angus J. and Catherine Margaret (Rankin) Gillis of Mabou. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother on August 5, 2015 at home. He was surrounded by his family and will be greatly missed by his wife Mary Catherine (Beaton), daughters Corinna (Dan), Lisa (Wayne), Shannon, granddaughter Jessica (Mike), grandsons Nicholas and Trey, great granddaughter Payton, daughter in law Julie Gillis, brothers Robert (Jessie), Onslow Ehler, Willard (Connie) Ehler, Marvin (Shirley) Ehler, Harold (MaryAnn) Ehler , Paul (Lisa) Ehler, sisters Dorothy Harvey, Marian Fifield, Leona (Ed) Brechert, Ann Roy, many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son Kevin Patrick, brother Eugene Ehler, sister Marie Urquhart, brother in laws Fred Fifield, Karl Harvey, Clarie McDonald, Neil Beaton, Bill Urquhart, sisters in law Helen Ehler, Isobel Ehler, Anne M. Beaton, Kathleen Hayes. Pat was a kind, gentle and loving man, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great granddaughter and dog Hailey very much. He loved all music especially Cape Breton music and playing guitar. He always had a smile on and loved to make people laugh. Pat was known all around for his love of horseshoes and hockey and his favorite team The Montreal Canadians. He also looked forward to his visits from Payton. Funeral mass was held Monday August 10, 2015 at Saint John Vianney Roman Catholic Church , Lower Sackville, Father Marc Syrenne, officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday August 15, 2015 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mabou, Nova Scotia.
